All Stars and Roster
The league fields two All Star teams - a 10 and under team and a 12 and under team. Both teams will be announced before the start of the Major game. If you receive a call from one of the All Star coaches about your player becoming part of the team, please be mindful of the following:
(a) Any player who will miss more than one week's worth of practices or who will miss a tournament game will not be considered for the team. It is important for the players on these teams to attend practices and the games.
(b) The 12 and under team will start its tournament on July 3 in Antioch and the 10 and under team will start its tournament on July 10 in Napa. The tournaments are double elimination and the games occur on consecutive days (or near consecutive days). The starting days are known, but the game times and numbers of days between games are not known. The tournament schedules have not been posted and will not be posted until mid June. Based on prior years, the teams could play 2 games in two days, there could be a day in between and, if they win a game or so, they could play 3 games in 3 or 4 days. This will require multiple trips to Antioch or Napa. And, there are early weekday start times for the games. It is quite a commitment.
(c) Parents/Guardians of All Star players will be asked to contribute $50 to cover the tournament fees and uniform costs.
(d) THERE IS NO GUARANTEED PLAYING TIME IN ALL STAR GAMES. This is tournament baseball and the emphasis is on being competitive, unlike the regular RPYB season. In other words, a player may attend each practice and make the trip to the tournament site for each game and still not play AT ALL or play very minimally. If this is, or may be a problem or concern for you, please do not accept an invitation to join an All Star team.
(e) To avoid the frustration that others have experienced when it comes to All Star playing time for their children, please consider the invitation to play on an All Star team as an invitation to participate in a 3-4 week baseball camp - with other RPYB friends.
(f) Parents of players who play on the All Star teams will be required to work in the snack shack during each team's practice games.
(g Please consider the above if you receive a call from an All Star coach.
All Star Team Selections
At games starting this weekend, the kids will each receive a ballot and will be asked to vote for no more than 10 names. For the 12U, the top 6 vote recipients will be extended invitations to be on the team. For the 10U, the top 4 vote recipients will be extended invitations to be on the team. We have an unusually high number of kids playing as 10's in the majors this year and, for this reason, the board voted to drop the number of automatic invitees to 4 from the players vote for this year.
Before voting, we will ask the players to vote for those who they think will give the All Star team the best chance of winning (as opposed to their friends) and we will ask them not to vote for themselves (although we will not police this; it is an honor system thing). A board member without a kid playing in the minors or majors will tabulate the votes and present them to the mangers of the two teams. As noted, the top vote getters will receive automatic invitations. The managers will select the rest of the team members. In doing so, the all star managers will contact the managers of the other teams to get their input on who should make the teams. In the end, however, the all star managers will make the final decisions.
